Telstra Reviews International PR Business

Steve’s breakdown: This story comes out of London but we’re talking about a global company from Australia. Hoovers’ description is: As Australia’s #1 telecommunications carrier, Telstra provides fixed-line services to about 9 million access lines, and it serves 10 million mobile phone customers. It is also the country’s leading ISP, through BigPond, with more than 3 million broadband subscribers. Telstra’s largest market is consumer and residential customers, but its business and government segment comes in a close second. The company also provides wholesale network services to other communications companies, while its Sensis telephone directory unit specializes in print, online, and wireless advertising. Telstra owns half of pay-television operator FOXTEL, while News Corp. and Consolidated Media Holdings each own 25% of the joint venture.

LONDON, UK: Australian telecommunications giant Telstra has put its international PR account up for review, drawing interest from a number of international agency networks.

The Holmes Report understands that the $400K brief covers Telstra International’s HQ in London, along with a particular focus on key markets in Asia-Pacific.

Telstra’s UK business is currently handled by Nelson Bostock. One source involved in the review said that the new review may consolidate this component.

The dominant telecoms player in Australia, Telstra International provides managed network solutions across Asia, EMEA and the Americas. EMEA marketing director Melissa Brown declined to comment.
