WASHINGTON, DC: Destination DC president and CEO, Elliott Ferguson, has appointed Greg Staley as the new Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the official tourism and marketing office for the nation’s capital.  A seasoned travel marketing professional, Staley knows DC well, having served the U.S. Travel Association for several years, most recently as senior director of industry communications.

“I am very pleased to have Greg join our team since he brings a significant amount of expertise in marketing a destination and promoting how important tourism is to the economy,” said Ferguson.  “In addition, his international and domestic marketing experience will help Destination DC further its agenda in attracting a global audience to our great city.”

In an earlier role as Vice President of Marketing Communications for the Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau, Staley composed the annual business and marketing plan that shaped the organization’s focus and budget allocation for marketing programs.  He was also instrumental in gaining publicity for the city in key markets domestically and abroad, guided campaigns to attract convention and leisure travelers, and created unique ways to collaborate with tourism partners through co-op programs featuring inbound press tours, outbound media missions and trade shows.

“The opportunity to promote Washington, DC’s vast range of attractions and businesses is tremendous, and I’m excited about the work ahead,” Staley said.  “I look forward to joining a great team at Destination DC and working with our partners throughout the city to strategically and creatively market all that the nation’s capital has to offer for both U.S. and international visitors.”

Staley, who begins his new role with Destination DC on July 11, 2011, will oversee the marketing and communications team, a staff of ten.  Immediate priorities will include marketing the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial opening August 28th and leading enhancements to the bureau’s website.
